NFM intends to develop a legislative agenda that advances and protects the civil and human rights of contingent faculty. This agenda will be determined by the Board in response to the expressed will of our membership. We encourage members to engage in robust and honest discussion to help us formulate and advance an agenda that promotes and protects both educational quality and the rights of contingent faculty. Lobbying/Legislative Efforts of Interest Around the Country: (To advise us of an effort you wish to publicize, please contact us.) NEW YORK: Support Unemployment Modernization and Insurance and Reform Act (to "expand benefit eligibility to part-time faculty who are denied access to benefits due to the issuance of "reasonable assurances" by their employers and to other workers who are unfairly denied access to benefits") OHIO: Ohio Part-time Faculty Association (to change the law that prevents public institutions from having to recognize the right of part-time faculty members and graduate students to organize for the purpose of collective bargaining)
